A week in the life: Photo edition
Someday soon (hopefully) I'll be able to take more photos of Kenyon when he's outside doing really fun stuff - riding on the tractor, pushing calves up the alleyway, loading trucks, etc. Currently, during those times I don't have my camera or phone in my hand. I'm either chasing after him or holding him back so he isn't immediately trampled. All in good time....
Rocks, rocks, rocks. You can never have enough rocks. |
Super hero cape or fresh out of the shower? Maybe both. |
Dancing in what will soon be his new room. |
Great Grandma's cupcakes. Not much better in life. |
This is what we look like when we run out of Grandma's cupcakes. Seriously, we told him there were no more and this was the look. I sent this picture to Grandma and she brought over reinforcements the next morning. |
Morning run. I love this smirk. |
Reading up on the markets. I promise I did NOT pose this shot. I was cooking supper on the stove last night and turned around to find this. |
He found the only mud puddle in a 10 acre radius and played in it as much as possible. |
We're not big on clothes, can you tell? Winter is going to be oh so cruel to us. |
Just hanging out, having a beer with his buddy, Justin. |
The face that will launch 1,000 trips to the principal's office. |
On second thought, maybe you shouldn't help me while I crochet...... |
We have an addiction to feed caps. |
What is there not to love about spaghetti? Nothing. Trust him. |
The end. |

Fun at the Creek
Kenyon took his cousin Ezra to play in the creek yesterday. Good times were had by all. (All those that didn't have to do laundry afterwards.) Actually, I'll never tell the boys this, but if dirty laundry means the boys are playing hard outside and staying away from video games I'll be a happy mama.
Please click on the photos to see them in a larger view.
These are the most perfect rocks in the history of the world! Finally! |
You think we should go home? I'll consider your request. Consider it denied. |
One year old and he already has the behind of an 80 year old man. We would like some suspenders for Christmas, please. |
This was from our morning jaunt. Breakfast at the bunk. |

I Sh!t Thee Not
I wish I could make up stuff like this; I truly do.
A few weeks ago Wesley and I decided to go out for supper to celebrate our anniversary. Kenyon was to spend the evening with his grandparents.
As I was loading Kenyon into the pickup I realized that I had forgotten his blanket in the house. I looked at Wesley and asked him to go get Kenyon's blanket. I said, "it's the brown blanket laying on the arm of the couch."
Wes went into the house and reappeared 30 seconds later...... holding a tan tea towel with blue roosters on it.
He gave me a half-hearted smile. "I'm pretty sure this isn't quite right, but it's kinda brown and it was laying on the couch with the folded laundry. It will work, right?"

Annual Conference
Two odd things happened this week. 1- After many, many months I have picked up my crochet project and been working on it like crazy during Kenyon's nap times. 2- I have seen traffic on this blog double. (In fact, it's up 200% today as compared to normal.)
This can only mean one thing: annual conference for my former coworkers.
I can't stand to sit for long periods of time without any sort of busywork in my hands, thus my need to crochet during conferences. It is so odd that I NEEDED to crochet this week, even before I realized it was time for annual conference. Others like to sit together and laugh about my antics, thus the increased traffic on this blog.
I'm missing seeing my friends this year, but this new job, the whole "stay-at-home-mom" thing is pretty cool too.

Play Time
So there is a creek just a few miles from our house. (Actually, there is one right next to our house, but there is ANOTHER creek a few miles away.) It has a solid rock bottom that makes it perfect for little boys to walk on.
I am still very much in the early stages of learning how to play with my camera. I went with high hopes of taking pictures of the trees, but all of that immediately went out the window when I turned around and caught K playing in the water. (So glad we went dressed for the occasion, right?) Pretty sure my lens wasn't designed to focus on something quite as close as he was, but this is a learning process.
Enjoy!

A List
I have no clear stream of consciousness today, so a list with short sentences it is.
- Kenyon's communication skills never cease to amaze me. I realize that I can understand him better than most because I spend 99% of my time with him, but nevertheless the kid has some skills. He nods yes or no to questions, stands next to his highchair when hungry and next to the fridge when thirsty. He LOVES to be read to, loves to read by himself, and when he walks up to you with a book and asks "Boo(k)" for the umpteenth time you can't help but give in and read about those damn little monkeys jumping on the bed yet again. (Sidenote: K shakes his finger every time when the doctor says.... no more monkeys jumping on the bed!)
- We are finally adding a proper bedroom for poor Kenyon so he doesn't have to sleep in the living room any longer. I'm not sure who's more excited - Kenyon or myself. Okay, I lied. I am the most excited. By a long shot.
- In anticipation of aforementioned new room, I have been doing all sorts of crafty little projects like crazy. These projects were a nice reminder that hot glue guns are not my friend. I have now lost most of the skin on my fingertips which should come in handy the next time I decide I want to rob a bank.
- I got a new camera the other day so be prepared to smile and cringe at my photos as I go through some major growing pains with it. I'm guessing you're going to have to make the same pained grimace that my folks had to for umpteen years with three girls taking piano lessons.
- Fall is here and therefore we are spending every waking moment outside. Much like we did this summer but with more clothes.

Monday laughs
Because I need to be able to embarrass my child when he gets older. I love this kid, and love that he LOVES to wear his boots and hat.

Rich Folks
Suppertime tonight took me back about 20 years. Growing up, we weren't dirt poor but we certainly didn't throw money around either. All of us certainly appreciate and value a hard earned dollar. No matter how difficult times may have been growing up, though, we always had a freezer full of home grown beef. I grew up thinking it was normal to have steak once a week. (Scratch that. I still think it is normal to have steak at least once a week.)
We would sit down to a huge supper that was absolutely fit for a king - steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, scalloped potatoes, rolls..... my mouth waters just thinking about it.
I remember that I would get so excited when we sat down to supper. We would bow our heads, say the prayer and then wait for IT. Every time we'd have such a feast my dad would smugly say, "I wonder what the rich folks are eating for supper tonight." We always knew we had them beat by a mile.
I can't wait to say the same thing to Kenyon and watch over the years as he comes to understand it. This evening I made beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes and broccoli with a cheese sauce. As we sat down to eat I made sure to wonder aloud what the rich folks were eating for supper tonight. As always, we had them beat by a mile.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME
There are some things in life that should never, ever be attempted by a layman. Two things come to mind very quickly.
1. Newborn photography
2. Children's haircuts
1. Newborn photography
Two weeks old and he's already disgusted with his aunt. My work here is done. |
2. Children's haircuts
I like to tell people that he's getting ready to ship out and go to boot camp. He's 'in the army now.' Poor guy. I didn't mean to make him look like a very tiny 6 year old. |
